Let’s start first with Happiness Chemicals, and how we recommend implementing them.

Dopamine: The Reward Chemical

A type of neurotransmitter and hormone. It plays a role in many important body functions including movement, memory, pleasurable reward and motivation.

What we recommend:

  • Completing a task

  • Partaking in self-care activities (Maybe some skincare?)

  • Eating yummy food

  • Celebrating the little wins


Oxytocin: The Love Hormone

A hormone and neurotransmitter associated with empathy, trust and relationship-building. Sometimes called the ‘love hormone’ because levels of oxytocin increase during hugging!

What we recommend:

  • Holding hands with loved ones

  • Hugging friends and family

  • Playing with a pet

  • Giving compliments to others


Serotonin: The Mood Stabiliser

A chemical that carries messages between nerve cells in the brain and throughout your body. It plays a crucial role in body functions such as mood, sleep, digestion, nausea, wound healing and bone health.

What we recommend:

  • Meditating

  • A walk in nature (don’t forget your SPF!!!!!)

  • Exercise


Endorphins: The Pain Killer

They act as analgesics, which means they diminish the perception of pain and act as sedatives. Manufactured in your brain, spinal cord and many other parts of your body, they are released to make you feel happy and reduce physical pain.

Hacks:

  • Laughter exercise

  • Watch a comedy

  • Dark chocolate (yum!)

  • Exercise
