Skin: Through the Ages

Let’s take a look into some skin concerns of mature-age clients.

As we age, our skin ages with us. Through every decade of your life, you need to take into account how your skin has changed and what its needs have become. Caring for your skin is a lifelong journey.

In this post, we are focusing on the skin in your later years of life and how we target age-specific concerns.

30s

In your 30s, your skin begins to reflect the complications of adult life. Some factors that you may begin to notice more:

Skin dullness, your skin cell turnover slows down as early as your 20s. By the time you hit your 30s new cells are visible every 28-35 days, compared childhood, turnover was every 14 days or so.

Dryness is a side effect of the slowing of skin cell turnover. Naturally, the top layer of your skin will have a difficult time staying moisturised naturally. Invest in a high-quality moisturiser as it is a great way to support the skin in maintaining hydration.

Your skin may also be less tolerant of external factors like cold and dry weather, even harsh soaps. Choosing skincare that will give your skin the strength it needs to combat these factors means it needs to be gentle with a strong foundation.

If you aren’t already doing treatments, you’ll want to start as early as possible.

From your 30s onwards, your skin goes through extreme changes that you may not be ready for.

The Dream Skin Clinic will give you and your skin the support it needs.

40s

Generally, your 40s are when you really start seeing major changes in the firmness of your skin.

You start having to deal with the loss of volume and elasticity as well as more pronounced wrinkles and sun damage.

This could lead to melasma which is a condition in which brown patches appear on the face.

Oh no!

But do not fear, The Dream Skin Clinic is here!

The ideal way forward is by enjoying in-clinic treatments as well as high-quality skincare that is recommended by our therapists.

Also, keep in mind that lifestyle adjustments can support your skin too, don’t underestimate it!

Clients in their 40s tend to visit us in regard to reducing signs of ageing. Treatments like chemical peels can target melanoma, sun damage and uneven skin tone or texture. Lasers are also popular as they are able to get underneath the surface of the skin.

50s

Major hormonal changes can affect the skin, at this age, the skin itself becomes thinner and less elastic.

Don’t stress!

Dryness is another major concern. You may also begin to see acne that you haven’t seen since your teenage years. This is only due to those hormonal fluctuations, but still…

That’ll be a bit of a throwback, right?

Excess pigment and signs of sun damage will become more prominent but through treatment the severity of these can be lessened.

Moving forward ensure that you help your skin retain moisture by using a high-quality moisturiser. Also, Using a mild and more gentle exfoliant is effective at removing dirt and debris without removing important oils from the skin.

Don’t underestimate the power of in-clinic treatments! Microneedling helps promote the production of collagen in the face. Also incorporating chemical peels encourage skin cell turnover and Healite boosts skin repair.

Booking a consultation will give us the opportunity to analyse your skin’s deepest needs and how we can promote your skin health.

60+

The main concerns for clients in their 60s and beyond are a lack of hydration and moisture retention.

We recommend keeping skincare simple, hydrating and gentle at this age and focusing more on procedures such as lasers that can be performed frequently for improvement and maintenance.
